I cannot express in words how excited I am that my garden is growing so fast!
It’s hard to even believe.
I mentioned before that I was completely changing how I garden this year. I was so sick of spending hours and hours every day trying to keep up with my weeding. I don’t have a huge gardening space, but it is big for just me to take care of.
The last three summers, I have spend at least two hours a day in the garden just weeding. Now don’t get me wrong, I am all for hard work, and weeding can be that at times, but I was sick of it. I was not only weeding the space where my plants were growing, but also the aisles where we walked and the edges of the gardening space. I swear I would pull a weed, and three would replace it the next day.
A never ending battle.
My plans for changing my garden layout can be found on my previous gardening post.
Getting my garden ready to plant took:
2 weeks time
4 yards of black dirt
2 Yards of sand
2 yards of horse manure
A LOT of hard work
It started out looking like this:
I got all my tires in and it started filling up:
When I got everything planted, it was so nice to see all the dirt filling the tires.
I couldn’t wait to see all the green coming up and making things look fuller.
In just under two weeks, things are growing like crazy!
I am beyond excited to see how well the rest grows in the coming days and weeks.
Here is the best part. Instead of spending hours and hours weeding, I have limited my growing space to within the tire itself thus limiting the space available for weeds to generate. So we have had barely any weeds.
I weeded for the first time yesterday. What used to take me hours and hours, took less than 10 minutes!
I didn’t do this alone!
1. HUGE Thank you to my husband who helped me haul dirt when things were getting down to the wire.
2. Big shout out to Les Schwab tires for letting me have all their throw-aways!
We’ll be eating fresh veggies in no time!
Thank you Mother Nature!
