About a month ago we brought home our chickens.
I like to refer to them as The Ladies.
Zoie has been over the moon excited to have them here,
spending as much time as she can get outside talking to them, feeding them, and petting them.
Sheriff Callie is the spotted lady.
She is the Leader of our Flock… cause she thinks she’s in charge.
The others all share a name.
Because I can’t tell them a part.
There is Daryl.
Her sister, Daryl.
Their sister, Daryl.
And their other sister, Daryl.
Those of you that remember The Bob Newhart show, should also get a little giggle out of that.
Miss Callie got her name from the Disney Channel… of course.
Zoie likes feeding them anything they will eat from her hands.
So we have a plethora of nuts and seeds, dried fruits, and dried worms. I know the worms sound disgusting, but they aren’t as bad as it sounds; and Zoie thinks it’s cool. She’s our bug lover.
Just like me, they’re big fans of bread and pasta but also enjoy a salad when offered.
Me and my chickens… we like our carbs!
We are regularly collecting 3-5 eggs a day from these little layers.
More than enough to feed our family and have some extras to share with family and friends.
I know I’ve said before that I don’t really care for chickens unless they are on my plate… okay… I might have used the word, hate. But these girls are growing on me.
So easy to take care of and I love that Zoie loves them so much.
Plus, she is learning a little responsibility having to check their food and water every day.
I am a huge fan of anything Zoie can learn from.
